Maruti Suzuki Gearing up for More Fuel Efficient Petrol Celerio: Report

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car marker has been a phenomenal success in the small car segment in the domestic market so far. The company's latest offering Celerio's story is no different.
Maruti Celerio has been etching success stories since its debut into the Indian auto market. Celerio, which made its India entry with petrol engine, later on also invaded the market with CNG option. Now the auto world is waiting to steer the wheels of diesel Celerio.
Even as the wait continues, latest rumour that is swirling around the web is that Maruti is developing a more fuel efficient petrol Celerio for Indian market. GaadiWaadi, citing sources close to the development reporetd that Maruti is likely to introduce new petrol Celerio with minor tweak in the current engine, promising better fuel efficiency. However, the report did not specify the details of the Celerio.
 
Currently, the Celerio is offered in CNG and petrol variants in the country and diesel model is likely to make its debut in coming months. Previous reports have indicated that the diesel variant of Celerio will be powered by a new 2 pot 800cc diesel motor, which can generate a power of 45-50 bhp and a peak torque of 120-130 Nm, promising a fuel efficiency of 30 kmpl.
Other features including the interior and exterior of the diesel Celerio will remain the same as the current version, except the minor tweaks in the suspension.

Maruti Celerio petrolUnveiled at Auto Expo 2014 in Noida, Celerio is the first car in India to come with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The current petrol model is powered by 998cc, 3-cylinder, K10B engine, which can churn out a power of 67 bhp at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 9.1 kgm at 3,500 rpm. It is offered with automatic transmission and manual transmission - and promises a fuel efficiency of 23.1 kilometers for both versions.

Maruti CNG Celerio Dubbed Celerio Green comes with a price tag of ₹4.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Under the hood, the new Celerio CNG packs the same 1.0 liter K series petrol engine, which is re-tuned to churn out 68 ps of power at 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm in petrol mode and 59 ps of power and 78 Nm of torque in CNG mode.

NEW DELHI: Maruti SuzukiBSE 0.12 % India Ltd is scheduled to report its results for the quarter ended June 30 later on Thursday, 31 July.

India's largest carmaker is expected to report 13 per cent YoY growth in its net profit number to Rs 715 crore for the quarter ended June 30, as compared to Rs 632 crore reported in the year-ago period, according to ET Now estimates.
