Porsche Wins for 10th Year in Latest J.D. Power Study

A new J.D. Power survey ranking cars in 77 different areas has put Porsche in the lead when it comes to customer satisfaction, while Hyundai has taken the title for best non-premium brand.
Released Wednesday, the latest U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout study includes 33 automakers and ranks Porsche at No. 1 for the 10th year, according to USA TODAY. The report is based on surveys of 86,000 new-car buyers after 90 days with their new vehicles.
The Porsche Cayman won top Midsize Premium SUV; the Boxter led the Compact Premium Sporty Car category; and the 911 earned top marks in the Midsize Premium Sporty Car category.
The top 10 brands as ranked by the study are Porsche, Jaguar, Audi, Land Rover, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Lincoln, Cadillac and Infiniti, a list that made Lincoln the top American brand overall.
The automakers that came in among the bottom 10 are Ford, Nissan, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Scion, Fiat, Subaru, Jeep and Mitsubishi.
Besides earning the title of best non-premium brand, Hyundai won in the Small Car category for its Accent model, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The customer satisfaction scores were essentially the same as last year's, dropping just one point for an average of 794 out of 1,000. Fuel economy was the only category that increased significantly, rising six points thanks to lower gas prices.
"Despite improvements this year, fuel economy continues to be the lowest-scoring category in the study by a wide margin," Renee Stephens, vice president for U.S. automotive at Power, said in a statement quoted by USA TODAY.
Last month, J.D. Power released the results of its annual initial quality survey, which put Porsche, Jaguar and Lexus at first, second and third, while Hyundai came in fourth ahead of Toyota.
Also named the top non-premium brand in the initial quality study, Hyundai has earned the accolade of being the first carmaker to win the title in both reports in the same year.
