Maruti Suzuki Y9T light pick up truck caught on video

Maruti Suzuki will enter the commercial vehicle market next year. The first product from the Indian brand will be the Y9T pick up truck. Spyshots of the pick up truck show that the Y9T will be a cargo version of the Suzuki Ravi that’s sold in Pakistan. The Y9T will get CNG, LPG and diesel engines. Maruti has started testing the Y9T on Indian roads and here’s a spy video of the light pick up truck.
The Y9T will be based on the Carry platform. This platform is one of the oldest in Suzuki’s light commercial vehicle range and has been supporting vans and pick up trucks for 40 years. Two vehicles in India, Omni and Eeco, already use the Carry platform. The Y9T will be the third Suzuki vehicle in India to use the Carry platform, which has seen 10 generations so far. We recently spied the Suzuki Carry (Not to be confused with the Y9T) pick up truck in India.
The Y9T will use the first diesel engine that Maruti Suzuki has developed. This diesel engine comes with two cylinders and a displacement of 792cc. Power and torque figures of this engine have not yet been revealed. Since it is built by Maruti, the diesel engine is likely to be a mileage champion. The diesel engine will be turbocharged and will also be used on other Maruti products. Small cars like the WagonR and Celerio may get this engine.
The CNG and LPG versions of the Y9T pick up truck will use a 1.2 liter engine. This engine is found on the Maruti Eeco passenger van. Since this engine is already tuned to run on LPG and CNG fuels, Maruti has a ready option for the Y9T’s CNG and LPG versions. CNG is turning out to be more cost effective that both diesel and petrol. The fuel is also less polluting than petrol and diesel. Encouraging more CNG powered vehicles on Indian roads could bring down pollution levels.
